Friend Friday

Friend Friday and this is one of my favorites. I always feel put together when I paint my nails and toenails.

  1. Do you keep nail polish on your fingers and toes year round? Yes,  I thought this question was odd because I didn’t know that people thought that painting your nails and toes were seasonal. I paint my nails and toes all year long.
  2. What are your go-to colors for the fingers and toes?ProStrong nail color line of Pink, nudes, red, burgundy, metallics, pearls.
  3. Any tips for strengthening your nails? Biotin supplements, Pink Gel Coat by PJ, strengthens and brightens.
  4. Do you have any nail ‘rules’ you abide by? (things like toe and finger colors must match, should never be the same, trim them all if one breaks, I dunno…) I really can’t stand chips on my nails.  If I am not able to paint over my nails and it looks smooth I will remove the nail polish because it looks tacky. I love my nail polish to look smooth and no bumps. My nail polish doesn’t have to match, makes it more chic.
  5. How often, if ever, do you get a manicure and/or pedicure? Not in years because I do my nails and toenails myself now.  I use to get my nails professionally done but one day I got a bad migraine headache from the fumes in the nail salon I went to and from then on I decided from then I would do it myself.

Friend Friday Focus on Confidence

Friend Friday questions focus on confidence

1. When you wear an outfit that you love how does that change your mental state?
When I wear an outfit that I love I stand taller and feel really good inwardly.  I just know when the clothes feel good and I also look good is a boost of energy.  I can be so critical about how I look regarding my hair, my weight, etc. that I am surprised that I make it out the door. When my outfit is not right it can change my attitude completely when I will feel less confident and not put together.

2. Do you find that the way you dress can help you be more confident in certain situations?

I work at a museum and when I have Committee meetings to attend and I have to meet with our Committee members for the Board of Trustees I feel like an equal when I am in a meeting because I take the time to plan my outfit making sure that it doesn’t only look good but that it’s also comfortable because I coordinate the meeting as well as the attendees.

3. Looking back, have you become more confident in rocking your personal style?
Yes, I was a shy girl that seemed to never feel good enough because I didn’t have the name brand clothes and shoes. I sewed my baccalaureate dress for my high-school graduation and my outfit for church (I went to a Lutheran high school) and I realized I can create my own style. I sewed a vest with my initials that I cut out and sewed on it, it looked so uniquely me and that was great because I have never wanted to be a cookie cutter of someone else.

4. How do comments, in person or on your blog, impact your feelings about a look, clothing choice, etc…

I appreciate comments and they can make me feel good and I like the advice or suggestions when needed.  And I can’t say that if someone said something negative that I could just shrug it off, I am a work in progress.

5. To be more confident, every woman should….   look in the mirror and say “I am beautiful.”  That has been the hardest thing for me to say to myself because it seems so silly.  However, I have noticed that by me saying it everyday it has impacted how I feel about myself in a positive way but I am still working on it.  I believe that in order for me to be more confident I have to feel beautiful inside.

Friend Friday

It’s Friend Friday and the topic is color. I love all shades of color so this is a joy to me. Please check out Katy from modlychic.blogspot.com’s blog where you can see other bloggers share their thoughts on color.
1. Which color do you find the most flattering to wear? Why?
I love red because it lights up my face and is so attractive on my complexion. Pink, peach, green, coral and red tones accentuate my  tan and I love it.

2. What color do you never wear? Why?   I can say that I do not like wearing all black from head to toe.  Black which is a neutral does nothing for me unless I pair it with a vibrant color because the color just brings me down.

3. Do you think there are universal colors that can look good on everyone? I think skye blue or a blushing pink brings out the color in everyone’s face no matter what complexion you are. These colors make you look younger and I know I get tons of compliments when I wear these tones.  In this picture below I have on a pink tunic and it’s one of my best pictures.

4. What are your tips to wearing a color that is not the best for your skin tone, but you just simply love?

If I was styling someone and a color didn’t work well on the person I would recommend that color in an accessory (shoe, belt, scarf, headband, handbag) or possibly a piece of jewelry.

5. In regards to makeup… what colors do you avoid, what do you always reach for?

Since I am more of a tan complexion I have to be careful of foundation that looks to chalky on me because it will show in pictures like someone put talcum powder all over my face.
I reach for Bare Escentuals foundation because I finally found all the different shades to choose from it made me so happy. Also, I love pink and jewel tone colors to add color to my eyes, my nails, and toes.
